A John Deere Question

With all the John Deere items available in HO, is there a website out there where I can cross reference some of the equipment that comes with some of the rolling stock so I can be sure it fits the era I am modeling? Also does anyone make a road grader that was made between 1930 and 1950? Thanks

Brent

Sure would be nice if someone made some 1:87 scale farm stuff that ISN’T JD.

Hi,

as for the the non JD farm equipment go to Walthers and in their advanced search specify Kibri for manufacturer and tractor in the Keywords section.

Hope it helps

Frank

I had the same question and found the answer, but don’t remember exactly how I stumbled upon it. Think I used Google and found a JD history page with time frames for the various models. If you can’t track it down, re-post with the time frame you’re looking at and maybe we can figure it out.

Mike

Hi Brent;

Just ignore the music on this site, there is a great deal of good information;

Thanks for the help. One thing I still can’t seem to find out though, is when did they stop putting those big steel spiky rear wheels on tractors, and start using rubber tires?

As far as brands of tractors and farm equipment other than John Deere, they are out there but hard to find. I have seen Massey Ferguson (sp?) and a couple of others in blue and red colours so just keep looking.

Brent

The metal tires went out before WWII, I don’t remember how long before but if you’ve ever ridden on metal tires you’d know why. Metal tires returned for a while during the war and the rubber shortage but returned as soon after as possible.

Hi Guys,

Another good resource, especially if intrested in good quality pictures of Antique John Deere Parts

from Davenport Tractor. Or if you would like detailed service manuals try a Replacment John Deere Service manual

Also does anyone make a road grader that was made between 1930 and 1950?

Look at the Jordan kits they may have an old road grader. I do know Jordan have a Fordson tractor, it does have steel wheels.

I would think that tractors with steel wheels and rubber tires would have been in use at the same time for many years. If that helps any.

GHQ makes metal kits for John Deere (called “1960s Green”), IH Farmall (called “1950s Red”), and Ford. I have just completed the manure spreader and hay bailer. They are not beginner kits, but the instructions are good with many pictures. I painted then both green because we are modeling a John Deere tractor dealer at Boothbay Railway Village The tractors come with driver figures. GHQ is stocked by Walthers

George,
Those look real good, you did a nice job on them!!!
I have the Baler & the Plows kits.
I plan to make the small Plow & Baler IH, as that was what Grandad & Uncle used, the Large plow may be JD to go with a 4020 series.
The Bailer will need some creative painting, as if I recall, the intake gaurds were ‘IH off white’ -cream, & may make a nice looking model.

Good job on yours!!! It’s one thing to say you have & built them, but yet another, to show them off.

I also enjoy other GHQ kits as well, they offer pretty neat subjects!
