I will try to relate this back to trains as best I can, I have brought it to this various English Speaking assemblage because a friend of mine on another forum invented a word that I should like to see in use (and maybe even in the Oxford English Dictionary someday)…
We are united in love of the hobby, but lets see if we can change the English language just one small iota…
BOVINEFECALOMETRY
How many post on this foum are genuine Garden Railroading and which smack of BOVINEFECALOMETRY? One measures this property on the metaphorical BOVINEFECALOMETER!
Hello Captain,
Does this involve the endless crap about weather and post counts!
I used to enjoy the difference in cultures,we used to be able to exchange.
However ,things have changed.
Believe me,there are things worse than sarcasm,it’s called endless crap!
ok Bergie. Delete this one just because it’s true!
Do I detect some vitriol in your post? [oX)]I hope it is not directed toward anything I posted here, if so…I appologize. I depend on this forum for international corespondance…
We were discussing this word first coined in one of the political forums I frequent…
Captain.
This has nothing to do with any of your posts.I have always enjoyed our conversations.A true international reposte.
The vitriol was not directed at you ,I hope you understand.
Troy
Thanks Troy,
I often doubt myself when it comes to “social misteps,” I was wracking my brain trying to find something “less than polite” that I might have posted. I often don’t mean to do stupid things…they just seem to come so naturally to me![:D]
Have a good…is it later evening in you neck of the woods when it’s mid-afternoon here?
Your friend,
The time at the bottom says it’s 4.43 GMT
Funny really.I am GMT and it’s 22.58.
Goonight Captain,sleep tight.
Goodnight all.
Troy
PS,keep those posts coming Captain.Beats the weather every time[:)]
It’s 19 deg F outside and the snow is up to a tall englisman’s bum …
oops!, I forgot, no weather -GRIN (I write the word describing the tone of the comment because I hate smilie faces).
I agree Troy, Cappy’s posts are always well written and interesting. He obviously picks his subjects carefully to get as much feedback as possible. And that’s exactly what we need.
The only shortcoming I see with “bovinefecal…” is that it fails to properly identify the sex of the Bovine (a crucial detail). May I suggest Testabovinefecal…? Further, can we agree that a Testabovinefecalor(er) (n.) is one who freely practices the art of Testabovinefecaling (v.) ?
If we were to adopt this proposal, both the Bovinefecalometer and the Heferscope would have the prefix Testa added.
I’m anxious to hear your thoughts on this tantalizing subject.
See guys this all gets back to my old hobby horse of different words and statements mean different things in different countries; and what can be an act of friendship can be misconstrued as an insult. I know Troy pretty well and he has a very good family life and occupation and life in general and it is unlikely that he would say anything hurtful to anyone.
So blokes lets always assume the best and treat what just about every one of the regulars say as an act of friendship.
Look at the word *** (you can delete this if you like Erik but it is not a swear word in this country) we use it all the time and it is a term of friendship. Most of the English speaking world absolutely deplore the American use of the words root and fanny, they are absolutely so rude you would get a punch in the mouth if you used them in mixed company in this country and in most English speaking countries. These very rude words you Americans use all the time and i truly think that you should stop it.you might say they are not rude words in this country but thats not the point much of what is in the American media is also broadcast internationally.
Not only do you use these rude words in mixed company but you even sing about them and i refer directly to “Take me out to the ball game” and "The theme from The Nanny.
I understand this new word of Joes quite well considering my surname; it is a super word relating to Bullsht.

PS Well i guess you wont be hearing from me for a while after i get censured.
Which of the many words that have been used in this thread so far is so offensive? If anything I’ve written has offended anyone, I’m truly sorry, I certainly didn’t mean to.
I’ve reviewed the thread and have found nothing that should make anyone uneasy, at least that’s how I see it from an American perspective. Nothing was written about or directed at anyone else, so I, for one, am a little confused.
Rush Limbaugh used the word Feminazi on his daily radio show for over ten years before it was finally made accepted into the Engilsh language and put into the dictionary (I’m not sure if it’s Oxford or Websters, maybe both). My guess is if we can get the rest of the world to start using it than it has a chance. Otherwise, it will soon be as forgotten as the actual matter which it describes.
Also I have noticed, that humor each country seems to enjoy. Here in America we have seem to be more relaxed in the rules on humor, then England or Australia. It doesn’t mean better just different. The TV shows have different type of humor. Monty Python is great, but many of the people I know think it is the worst show, with no humor in it at all. BBC television sitcoms are very different as well. Haven’t see Australian shows, other then Mel Gibson movies, but the folks that have visited seem to have humor closer to the British style.
But that is what makes the world go round.
Ian, I didn’t see any rude words, so can you fill us in on what words in this thread have been offensive ?
And last, it is 48 degrees, partially cloudy, but no rain. We almost have dry ground outside. [8D][8D][8D][8D]
Oops, no weather on this thread, gotta go find the coffee shop. [:D]
I ,as well as Walt ,have checked this thread and don’t know what you’re getting at?
It is true though about different swear words in different countries. It would be a tricky thing to discuss without upsetting everyone somewhere in the world.
Kim–with the election coming up I think we should build a heferscope.Should make things clearer!!
