A Layout Challenge (OK, I need help)

Table is 36" x 81". Will add a second identical table later.

Particulars:

Steam era (no particular dates)

No town, just an old highway through countryside “between towns”.

At least one farm on the hills or flats at the base of a mountain.

One industry with appropriate siding tracks for a slaughter house & meat packing plant.

The abillity to run two trains continuously if at all possible. (upper & lower track lines)

OK, this all sounds doable, right? Now for the Challenge: This layout needs to include the tressel pictured below.

Click image to view full size.

26" long x 10 1/4" high, base is 17"

Because of the size of this tressel, two track levels is going to be the only way to go. You can see why I am having trouble with this. The second table “could” contain a helix to bring the upper level track down to the base level main-line(s), so keep this in mind if it helps.

Thoughts and help with working up a track plan will be GREATLY appreciated. I’ve been getting nowhere on this so far. Thanks for any help. [C):-)] Rob

This is N Scale on a door and using layers of foam. Thanks!

What have you tried so far?

Why do you need 2 levels?

Unless you start cutting out pieces of the bridge you can’t put the bridge over another rail line, there isn’t clearance. So the bridge just fills a valley. There is no need to have two levels unless you want to and then you can make it anything you want. 1" or 12". Same difference.

Cut the table and drop the trestle below it.

This one is 20 inches tall, 6 feet long and the track level changes no more than 3 inches on the entire run.

You beat me to it.

You don’t need two levels. Just build a valley/canyon with a base below table level.

Kind of like this: ------------\ tttttttttttttttttttt/---------- Track

\ /

-------------------\ / --------------- Table

\ /

\ _____/Dropped area

Thanks Guys, that is definately the best answer. I’m guilty of over thinking and complicating things.

Any suggestions for planning some basic trackwork to serve a joint slaughterhouse with stocks & packing plant? Nothing too complicated, just what would come from a mainline to the facilities.

Thanks for any suggestions Rob

I’ve had this idea brewing for a while:track plan 1

I like it because it provides a long continuous run. You could add curves to make it more interesting, and sidings and spurs. I think your trestle could fit into a gorge on the straight stretch near the edge of the table just after the routes diverge to create a loop.
