Naw. It’ll take some duct tape and bailing wire AND BUBBLE GUM to fix that up right and purddy.

Talk about a bad day at the office.

Got the locofax on this one. Model GP40 builder# 36400 date Apr 1970; original ROCK ISLAND 4714 to Union Pacific in 1980; #645 UP 645 was relettered to MP 645 in February 1985; leased to NdeM in October 1989 to January 1990; returned to UP after being wrecked (fire damage) while on lease to NdeM; relettered back from MP 645 to UP 645 on 25 January 1990; stored unserviceable; sold to National Railway Equipment, Dixmoor, Ill., 17 March 1993; to Missouri & Northern Arkansas (Railtex) 645. Renumbered MNA 4045. Sources Utah Rails, ROCK ISLAND TECHNICAL SOCIETY, Trainweb It was wrecked while leased and it’s still out there on the MNA.

That fuel tank is supporting a lot of weight. Are there vertical supports inside the tank or is there enough strength in the fuel tank end-sheets to support that kind of weight?

Actually this is the prototype unit of the “Full Visibility” program initiated by management. Any train service employee having issues with in-cab video will be assigned one of the “Full Visibility” units. Roll out is expected to be complete in 2013.

I wonder about the “DO NOT BOARD” and “DO NOT OCCUPY” lettering on the short hood. Could this have been a radio controlled unit?

The UP was leasing units to NdeM including this one. The UP shop was doing the maintenance and struggled to keep enough power going because the lease units were in such poor shape. That makes me think they were running the thing just as pictured down in Mexico.

I took that lettering to be added after it’s accident. That is: in the shape it is in :STAY OUT!

I could be wrong, I’ve been wrong before and will again for certain.
