Anyone own their own engine and have it on your property?
Disney animator Ward Kimball had 2 full size narrow gauge complete trains and about 300’ of track on his property in El Monte here in the San Gabriel valley. Its all been taken to the Orange Empire RR museum now.
About 15 years ago the firm I worked for did a custom house design for a fellow who had a partially restored Porter 0-4-0 and a very tight loop of track that circled the house on the property, even had its own little engine shed. It had converted to run on a dismal motor though, not a real live steamer. Never saw it built as I had moved on before it got to that point.
I saw something on TV maybe ten years ago where a guy had a full size passenger locomotive in his basement. I don’t think it was complete, maybe lacking an engine or even trucks. But the cab was complete in evey detail outside and inside. I think he built the house around it. It was an EMD E-uint of some type. Pretty impressive to take your friends down to see what you got in the basement.
