I havent posted in almost a year on the MRR forum here. in fact i havnt even been around in a while as i was really upset about some things going on around here: any way… I see every one, so it seems, is into prototypical operations, which i think is really cool, if you have the time and people to operate on such a time table.
let me reflect on what made me interested in trains:
as a child, we reguarly visited my grandparents in lancaster pa. there in my grandfathers basement was all my dads old american flyer trains, which are there to date. however, my dad took no interst in them, but i did. my grandfather had a mess of multiple ovals that ran about ten trains at once. all americaln flyer. then he added HO scale and N scale to the layout. the scenery was bland (painted Homosote) Hardley prototypical! but man was it fun as kids and even as a thirty year old child at heart to run, the hum of the AC power packs, Sparkes, and goofy electromechamical animated diplays!!! and that malfuntioning billboard whistal that sounds more like a wounded duck than a whistle) even now, at thirty i still cant waint to go down to the basement to plug them in and run them
now my 24’ by 40’ N scale layout, is well waiting on drywallers to get out of the way!!
Im not sure how ill run it detail it or even design it!..its my pike…hhhhmmmmmmmmm prototypicly to the real ohio central? or MY ohio central…[:o)] anyway…just me …i dont expect everyone or anybody to see much of a point here
i guess my point is, no matter what : its your money and time and space ,SO compose YOUR model RR. to do what YOU want. make it YOURS!!!
Ryan
Thanks for saying what many of us feel is, or should be, true about our grand hobby.
There is an old saying, “Them that pays the piper calls the tune.” When I spend your money on my layout, I will happily accord you a say in its development. [:o)] If I spend my own, I will make as much of a hash of it as I please…in an other person’s terms. It will be as good as gold in my eyes.

I’ll buy into that!
Darrell, quiet…for now
If it feels good, do it!
“If I ruled the world (etc)”
We DO rule our little worlds, and in fact have paid the piper at FHS (Favorite Hobby Shop) so calling the tune is part of the fun.
NOBODY in my world paints up the handsome railroad cars and rights of way with Graffiti, no one stops them my little 160th folks are just too polite and respectful to do it.
They love to ride the Trolleys, leaving their clean, rust free cars at home.
Trucks run only to the team track or intermodal terminal.
Amtrack trains earn lots of money and have to regularly run extra sections!

Follow your dream.
Not somebody else’s.
Openminded, self confident modelers will appreciate your efforts and admire the results. They will offer help and advice if asked, but avoid pushing their pet obsession unless you let them know that it’s also your pet obsession.
Above all, if it’s fun, it’s good.

I still miss my old Lionels, with the milk car that would deliver little magnetized milk cans, and the cows that would prominade through the cattle car on a vibrating platform. I love watching these things at train shows, and even Thomas the Tank Engine layouts bring out a big smile in this 59-year-old little kid.
Mister Beasley
I miss my lionel flat car with the submarine on it. Man that was my favorite!!!
Ryan,
There is a single yard stick that I use when I try to see if a model railroader is successful or not. Does the guy/gal smile alot when operating/playing? If so, then that person is a success!!
