As most all of you know from reading my profile, I am a total Mary Poppins Buff (hence my forum name too).
I would like to see a Lionel Box car in the Disney Line with recordings of the all of the songs (recoings of the whole songs too) from Mary Poppins.
No, I don’t mean an impersonatr singing them, I mean a recording from the movie of the songs:
Just a Spoon Full of Sugar, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, I love to laugh,
Fed the Birds Tuppence a Bag, Chim Chim Caree, Step in Time, and Lets Go Fly a Kite.
This would be a fabulous addition to the Disney Line. Also, the rides including the railod trains at Disney Theme Parks are fitted with MAPO machines. MAPO is short for Mary Poppins. Walt disney named the machine after Mary Poppins, because the machines were bult at the time, and before he died, that was his favourite movie.
How much are you willing to pay for such a car? To have anything like you suggest, we would need a pretty serious Railsounds memory upgrade, which does not come cheaply. Expect a price equal to that of a small command controled diesel, if not more.
What you can do, though, is get an MTH Locosound engine and IR lockon. You can hook a tape or CD player up to the IR lockon, and have it play through the Locosound engine speaker.
I don’t knowq what MAPO machines are, but I think they are machines to automatically control the trains. Like once, there was a train stalled, and our train was headed right for it.
Well, the MAPO machince stopped the train, so it is like a big automatically controled layout.

The trains of the Disneyland Railroad are actual steam locomotives that are controlled by HUMAN BEINGS, just as steam locomotives have been for over 170 years. There is no automatic control of the trains at Disneyland whatsoever; if the engineer sees a green light, he pulls the throttle and goes; if he sees a red light, he closes the throttle and applies the brakes.
The “MAPO machine” did not stop your train–a real flesh-and-blood engineer did.
I have an idea. Get a digital voice recorder ( about $60 ) and hold down the record button during the songs on your movie. shove it in a cheaper boxcar and press play. You might get at least half of the songs. also get one of those things you use to make a portable cd player with headphones into a boombox. put the plug into the headphone jack and away you go!
I see a flamewar coming…everyone calm down before this gets intense! By the way, MAPO is Disney’s Manufacturing and Production Organization, a division of Walt Disney Imagineering (the branch of the company that makes the theme parks) which focuses on the assembly of the ride mechanics.
I geuss that that is true. Maybe Lionel Might Consider a Boxcar dressed up wth Mary Poppins decor would be nice. I might try my hand at taking ut a railsounds unit from the Desil Sounds Boxcar and try to record the Songs.
If not, I’ll try somthing like a boxcar decorated with Mary Poppins stuff and put a small digital recorder with a tape of Mary Poppins with the buttons of the recoder sticking through the roof. I’ll keep you posted.
