Thanks for visiting us over at the new walthers.com!
Our goal is to bring you a site providing great service, easy access to information and help you find the products you need for your layout. We know it’s hard when any site changes, but the many upgrades now in place should make it easier to shop, especially as more of us rely on mobile devices for all of our online needs.
We’re working out some of the kinks that are inevitable with a project this big, but your feedback is helping us better serve the needs of modelers everywhere.
Since the site went live we’ve already fixed a few problems that modelers brought to our attention and we have additional changes planned based on your input.
Let’s address a few topics.
Search:
The search box that appears in the upper right hand corner on the home page at https://www.walthers.com uses a more powerful search engine. This new version actually searches much more of our database than the old Advanced Search, and along with the new filters, greatly enhances your search capability.
If you want to focus your search results even more, use the filters on the left side of the page to narrow your search. If you don’t see the filters on your screen, click the “show filters” tab on the left side of your screen (on a computer) or at the upper right of your screen (on a mobile device). Take a look at our Search Tips here: https://www.walthers.com/advanced-search-tips and give the new search feature a try. We are developing an “Advanced Search” tool that operates similar to our old one, but we feel it still needs some work. We plan to return this feature to the site, but only after we’re satisfied it provides the capabilities you need.
I agree with Mike on this reply from Walthers. It is to their credit that they are taking the time to look at the comments and are addressing them. I tried the new site and I found it to be a nice improvement over the old site.
I was skeptical at first, especially with all the negative comments. But, it is not that bad, and perhaps it’s better than the previous one. It helps that Walthers is listening to constructive comments, and continuing to correct issues. Of course, the more one uses it, the better one gets at navigating it.
Well, if they get the Advanced Search back to 1-click access (it’s kinda two click now, with the filters), then I really can’t say anything bad about it.
What happened is many organizations and agencies skipped Windows 8 altogether and will be jumping directly from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Where I work we plan on doing exactly that (7 to 10) and we did the same thing with Vista skipped it and jumped from XP straight to Windows 7. Heh heh, it’s like the Star Trek movie’s, everyother one was a dud.
Anyway, TBH, I haven’t visited Walthers site since the big change, but unlike those “odd” versions of MS Windows that were unpopular, I’ll have to figure it out and eventually get used to it.
I have no idea why, but I haven’t been able to access the web site since the change. All I get is “THIS PAGE CAN’T BE DISPLAYED”. No problems before that.
Are you perhaps trying to get to the site using a “favorites” button that was actually to a URL embedded deeper into the old site than the home page? If so that page does not exist. I had the problem but then just started afresh searching for Walthers on Google, and made a new favorites upon getting into the site.
If worse comes to worse, in your address bar, just type “walthers.com”. If that doesn’t work, put the “www.” in front of it. Another thought: What browser are you using? It is possible that the browser is old enough that the new site won’t work with it.
The old site was horrible. I have spent just ten minutes on the new site and I like it already. I have been spoiled by Amazon and seem to hold all other sites to that standard. This is close to Amazon quality.
I know this topic has been pretty much ended, in this thread and the other.
For me, however, the biggest change with the new website is I feel Walthers has now given me a reason not to buy their catalog any longer. I would buy a new one every other year, and I would use the old advanced search function as a supplement, to quickly find the items in the catalog, for larger images.
With the graphic heavy content now, really no need for the catalog any longer.
And I don’t plan on paying just to be able to see the discontinued items.
