A Narnian railroad?

My interest in model trains had been declining a bit (though I am still a big fan of real trains)…it has been replaced with learning fencing and other types of sword play, and an obsession with The Chronicles of Narnia. I thought, why not combine the two? I am wondering what it would be like to build a micro layout based in the land of Narnia…prehaps even a series of micros? I coud call it The Cair Paravel, Anvard, and Tashbaan; The Narnia, Archanland, and Calormen; The Lantern Waste, Dancing Lawn, and Cair Paravel. The Ettinsmoor Southern? Any ideas for a layout like this. I figured I could mix American and British lines. Locos could wear a bright red paint sheme with a golden lion logo. Fauns as engineers? Centuars riding on flat cars? Thanks for any ideas!

Haha, I like it! Narnia is a little early for trains, but not a bad idea!

Don’t forget the Beaver Lumber & Logging Co. RR - they would definitely be running Shay locomotives.

I like the idea, However I feel that british style steam locomotives would be a better fit in Narnia.

As for the shays, Go ahead and run one, But I am sure a British outline shay would have a very "clean: outline.

James

Sure, why not? It’s YOUR railroad. Do it any way which pleases you. In another thread, I alluded to the Nile & Giza RR which carried stone from the river docks to the building site. (Pyramids, you know)

If the Egyptians could build pyramids, I’m sure they could run a railroad…

You could have an interchange with the Middle Earth Zephyr with connections to Hogwarts.

That is interesting. I’m a fencer too, has no correlation to broadsword though. Have you joined a group like the society for creative anacronizm?

There was a very good fantasy railroad done about two decades ago at the height of the original “Dungons and Dragons” popularity. It was called the “Troll & Elfin”. I saw it in the “Teen” section of Model Railroader. Unfortunately I cannot remember the date nor find it in the index…

heres one,if you do make a railroad like that, try the roadname red lion lines for narnia and tash southern for calormen.im stumped for a name of the wild lands of the north though.

great ideas, ya’ll!

I don’t really care like bill said it’s your railroad. But my [2c] dosen’t like the idea. Harry Blatter and his chamber pot of secrets is for nerds!!![D)]Not railroaders.

Almost as stupid as an Oscar Mayer wiener railroad. Amazing what weird crap people think up.

Jeff

Thats not so far fetched. Oscar Mayer had a sizable fleet of Reefer cars with the Oscar Mayer Logo prominatly displayed on the side. I know because they sell decals for them.

James

My wife and I were at a wedding of a good friend last summer.

We got to talking about careers with some people we met at our table (as one often does with strangers).

The guy accross from us was a puppeteer - he was inside the Lion in the new movie. It actually sounded like a lot of hard work. Pretty interesting. He said while working on a movie, he has no idea if it will be a success or not - this turned out to be one of the “big ones”.

Well, I was hoping for positive thoughts and additional ideas for a fun, whimsical model railroad. Thank you to all who contributed those! I also got some rather rude and un-adult like critisism. I give you no thanks for that. If you wi***o dissagree with some point of my idea, by all means, do so. But to do so in the childish manner displayed is an example of immaturity that even I, at the age of fourteen, do not show.

For one, I had no mention of Harry Potter. I like the movies, but am not a fan of the books. I also question you deffenition of the word “nerd”. if being a nered is having an imagination, then by all means, I am one of the biggest nereds on the planet. I think the problem with many people these days is that they have no sense of imagination, wonder, and innocence. And more importantly, just plain fun. sometimes you just gotta have fun, with battles, railroads, or both. If you believe otherwise, I kindly request that you do so in a manner that is not insulting.

As for 1shado1…if all you can do is insult other folks’ creative ideas, then know that I feel truley sorry for you, and you will be in my prayers. Thanks again to all the positive ideas. I think I am going to try a connection to Middle earth and mabey run some Shays.[:)]

God Bless Ya’ll!

It’s your world! Run what you like… I’ve got Larry the Cable Guy, trolls, elves, gnomes, and all kinda critters on my layout. I’m just a kid too. 55 and refuse to grow up!
An remember, Bill Gates is called a nerd by alot of people. If the richest man in the world is called a nerd, then I figure the moniker is a compliment!

And I LIKE the Harry Potter movies…[:D]

As Capt_Turk said its your railroad. Your last reply shows you are way ahead of any detactor opinions. Besides I am older than Turk and I do have a Hogwarts. Happy railroading. Phil

harrumph. You ever look in the mirror? How much of the general public considers model railroaders to be nerds?

OKN,

It sounds like a fine idea, you’ll have the best luck if you go with O scale, which is the same as 25mm scale, which will give you access to a myriad of fantasy figures. The only problem I see with the idea relates to internal consistency. The technological level of Narnia is thoroughly medieval, so a railroad is definitely an anachronism.
