I see you SP fans have cause to celebrate. BLI/PCM say they are gonna do it, and in Freedom Train livery too, and with a whole train of prototypically correct cars. I must admit those guys do have rather good taste.
Uh oh. I think they got me this time.
Yep, I may be in trouble too. It may only run once or twice a year, but there’s always room for an excursion train, even in the late 90’s.
…and don’t forget the articulated cars to go with it. This is an answer to a lot of SP fan’s prayers and wishes.

YYYEEEESSSSSSSSS!!! What we have all been waiting for!!!
Virginian and mike,
Can you please post ( or e-mail ) where you got this info?? Thanks!
YESSS!!! Thank you god! #4449 is on my list!
This news is too hot to become second page!!! All hail BLI!!!
Does anyone know if it will be released as a BLI or PCM model???
Could we have more info? Maybe some proof they’re actually doing this? It’s great news because the only other GS4 is Bachmann. I might have to consider getting one of these despite the fact its not at all right for my layout.
Ohmygahd, in the early fifties the Daylight ran 20 cars long every day!!!
I wonder if they’ll have the (prototypically correct) one note (plaaaahp) air horn or the current steam whistle
One question would be whether the released engine will be able to pull all those cars!!! With the already released BLI 4-8-4’s, I can do at best 10-11 passenger cars on flat ground and this goes down to 7 on a 2% grade. I am not sure in real life the train was double-headed, at least for this length.
I’m a diesel only SP fan, but looks like their going to hook me on this one. A quality Daylight is a dream. [8D][:D]
Weren’t they origonally equipped with both? I though all steamers had steam whistles, and a few later ones had secondary air horns. Who knows, with todays DCC technology, they may be able to include both![:p]
Where are you seeing this!!!??? I might have to have one of these! My daughter and I stood in the cab of 4449 2 years ago at Portland while they were preping her to be painted back in the daylight colors! What fun! Something I’ll never forget!
This is super news!
The Daylights were among the most beautiful passenger trains in the world. The paint scheme, unique custom built passenger cars, and of course the locomotives.
4884BigBoy and Jim…
The new Tsunami decoder has the setup where you can blow the heavy steam whistle and the “honker” horn (Wabco E2 sound). My friend installed one in his brass Westside GS-4 and let me run it at the club. It was very enjoyable! I’ll I had to do was press the “F6” key on the DCC controller to change between the whistle and the horn.
Stands to reason that BLI is aware of this, so hopefully the horn feature will be available on the new BLI GS4. It’s not a bad idea to e-mail BLI and ask them.
It’s great to see that Broadway is working to raise the bar once again! [:D][8D][4:-)][tup]
Joebaze:
The COAST DAYLIGHT used to run 15-20 cars between LA and San Francisco, and the GS-4’s did it alone, except for a short 2.2% grade between San Luis Obispo and Cuesta, where it crossed the Coast Range. The helper was usually one of the SP’s 2-10-2’s, which made for a pretty spectacular sight–a heavy freight loco double-heading with a streamlined loco with 80" drivers! But except for that short section, the entire run was generally made with a single GS-4. They were speedy and powerful.
Let’s hope that the BLI (or PCM) GS-4 will pull like the prototype. And the Daylight cars coming out are the answer to an SP modeler’s dream, especially that articulated 3-unit diner.

Nither BLI or PCM has it on their web sites…
Walthers has listed it…
Sean
I don’t want to be too picky, but I don’t see a de-skirted black version listed at Walthers. After about 1950 or so, all but GS-4’s #4449-4457 and GS-5’s # 4458/4459 lost their Daylight colors.
He said as he did the dance of absolute delight.
The de-skirted versions will be the second run.
Andre
YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!
