A New variation on Big Pine Trees

For decades, big pines in HO and O were made with carved dowles and aspargas fern. They looked good. We see them on some of the best layouts.

Recently there was expermentation with using Caspia instead of Aspargas fern. I have posted a few and they look good, I think.

But none really looked like a Douglas Fir or a White Pine. Recently I bought a bunch of Caspia from Michals to make a few more. Many of the sprigs were without blossoms, just a complex twig effect. I tried a tree with just the flowerless spirgs and then sprinkled with Static grass and hairspray. Here is the first one.

Has any one else tried this to see what the potential is?

Art you have really came up with a great tree. I think mixing them with furnace filter type trees would be a nice effect for my part of the woods, also like the branches at the bottom, will use your method for a more realistic limbing out newley droped trees in my logging area. thanks for sharing…John Warren

Those are some of the best I have ever seen. I have some of the materials here and never got around to trying them.

Nice trees…never too many ways to make trees. Jerry

I see potential, but it’s not there yet. The color is too light, but you can do with a darker static grass–unless of course, it is just your camera.

The needles are pretty random. I’m wondering if the static shooter would work for that.

The best trees I’ve seen are on Charlie Comstock’s site.
