A new web cam

I just got turned on to this webcam in Gerlach,Nv. The UP main is on the right. For those that don’t know Gerlach is about half way between Portola,Ca. and Winnemucca,Nv. on the Winnemucca sub of the feather river route.

Cool (the picture, anyway- the camera temp sure is warm).

…Nice big clear picture…Pretty blue sky today.

A VERY Good picture, thanks for sharing that link.
Would like to see a “bit” more of that water tower though.

Its a shame my Model RR club building doesn’t have any utilities except electricity, I would set up a webcam looking out over our negihboring tracks, maybe one looking each way. I guess i will have to wait for that one.

That is sure a nice angle on that Cam. Too bad the tracks are a secondary feature in the shot.

Do you have a wireless internet provider in town? they could hook you up. If you talking about a cam on the Overland that would definately be a worthy cause.[8D]

Just checked in on it and school’s just getting out. You can see the parents walk out of Brunos (the town bar) and pick up there kids up.[(-D]

And here we are, in the heart of beautiful downtown Gerlach.

That is a good image.

great web cam.

The kids are walking down the middle of the road with pickup trucks following them.

Sure looks like a nice day in Gerlach.

Have been to Gerlach one time, 1963, I think, with my folks visiting some friends at Empire (US Gypsum company town). All I remember about Gerlach was that it had maybe four bars and precious little else, since USG didn’t allow liquor sales in Empire. Oh, yeah, and this being Nevada, there had to be a few stray slot machines in town.

It made Plaster City seem downright urban by comparison. I remember the kids saying they had to drive about 90 minutes each way to go to the movies. Really in the middle of nowhere.

2 bars now. I’ve been kicked out of both, one permanantly.

I dont know if we can get wireless there. We are only about 200 feet from the local Cable station, I was thinking that they may be able to provide us with somthing, Also I have a friend that lives a couple blocks away and have been thinking of talking to him to run it off their server and to see if I can get thier service there. You should see the amount of traffic on this part of the line, today, there was one about every 5 minutes. Plus the local switching crew running around.

You really need high speed connection for a decent web cam. And that location is definately worthy of a decent web cam. So you need DSL(Phone line) or better yet wireless or a cable tv internet connection. I don’t know what you have out there but I would go with cable or wireless as they are the highest speed connections. It’s going to cost money to set up and run so unless you are independantly welthy you would have to secure funding. Perhaps some advertiseing or something. Stringing a twisted pair to a neighboring building sounds like a good idea but you need to be realistic about it.

That would be an awsome location for a webcam though.

Chad- Thanks for the link. Nice shot and picture from the cam, too.

No disrespect to the town but Gerlach sounds like the sound one makes when ones drinks too much at the bar.[xx(][:o)]

Good for you![:)]

Warm, indeed. There’s a big high pressure system over the Great Basin (ie the site of this CAM).

The high in San Francisco was 70 F today…way high for February.

Trending toward lower temps starting tomorrow.
