This is a basic out-and-back style layout for N scale. The size I have to work with is small, so this layout is 36"x80", a little large than a lot of door layouts. I added the extra width to keep things pushed back and away from my 3 yr old son. [8D]
I made this using RightTrack 5.0 and it should be pretty close to scale. The minimum curve radius is 11". I’m interested in any input you might have, especially where the yard area is concerned. I tried to improve on the standard setup, as I want operations to be a big part of the fun.
[EDIT] Changed the image a little bit. The red X’s are possible locations for the passenger depot, instead of it’s current location.
It’s lookin good, are you ready for the wireing ? You do have a reverse loop in it. I know that I haven’t put one in mine just because I don’t want to take the time to figure out the way to wire it just yet. LOL… I read earlier that you hope to expand later on, I would just make sure to leave enough room to add more switches to the yard to make it double ended. (to make operations more realistic) Then you could expand to the right side and maybe even extend the main line to go out and come back around where the passenger station is now, especialy if you can lower the right hand loop a little so when it came back over you wouldn’t have a steep grade. And by the way thank you, your reminding me that so much can fit into small area. I made the move from HO to N and I’m still thinking that I need more space for things.
