Jensen’s story has been the subject of many threads over on the RYPN forum, here are several with interesting information from folks who were there, and a photo of the man himself working on an engine:
Just my two cents worth, I remember reading a letter to “Locomotive and Railway Preservation” magazine way back in the 90’s concerning the scrapping of 5629. It was written by Dick Jensen’s parish priest, a steam fan himself, and the good Father recounted that as the clock was running out on 5629 Dick had plenty of offers of help in saving the locomotive but for some reasons best known to himself turned them all down. No one could figure out why.
I’ve still got the issue of the magazine somewhere, probably buried in a box in the attic.
