A Pleasant Afternoon At The B&SV Railroad (17 IMGs)

Yesterday my wife and I, along with another couple that are good friends of ours, headed over to Des Moines to visit our daughter and son-in-law and to celebrate our 28th Wedding Anniversary. Being that our interests are not the same, the gals headed out shopping and the guys headed north to Boone. Knowing that we were planning this, I put the word out to good forum friend jeffhergert, and he met us there and did an excellent job of being our personal tour guide for the excursion. Some pictures:

Being a nice day, the railroad had a good crowd for the 1:30 ride-

And away we go; the run-around track at the other end (Frasier) is still unavailable due to flood damage, so the engine had to push us out for the start of the trip-

Here’s the view of the Chinese steamer pushing us-

Crossing the trestle, the highlight of the trip-

Some kids across the way enjoying the view from the trestle-

The Des Moines River, thankfully back within its banks-

Heading back across the river with the steamer now leading-

One of B&SV’s diesels sitting in front of a maintenance shed-

Back at the station, I finally have time to get some close-ups of the equipment-

[:)] Glad you had a great time looks like you had a great day for it Larry

The dinner train and the old CNW transfer caboose are new since I worked there. That Chinese steam engine, as it was told to me, was actually cheaper for them to buy new than to have an American steam engine refurbished. When we’d do the run-around on the team track at Frasier, I always got bit-up real bad by mosquitoes that came out of the woods there - I’d be holding the grab iron on the back of the tender with one hand and swatting skeeters with the other. I hope you checked-out the depot museum and gift shop.

Yep, we sure did! My son-in-law bought himself an engineer’s cap.

Great Shots,Brian. It’s been a while since my family and I have been to the B&SV.The one time we were there we were too late to ride the train, but did spend some time in the gift shop and such.

Have a good one.
