As well as being New Year’s Eve, it is also my birthday. The big 35! My wife and family chipped in for an awesome 1953 NYC F3 2354. Wow, are these things beautiful! They run strong and just scream “POWER”! And the smell, Oh the smell! I’ve died and went to ozone heaven!
I find it very interesting how the “feeling” I get when I get a PW engine differs from a modern day loco. Guess it all has to do with the magic.
Secondly, congratulations on acquiring a very fine set of locomotives! I’ve been semi-hunting for a set of 2344s, and might actually have found a set if my buddy and I can agree on a price. The 2354s are certainly worthy siblings and every bit as wonderful. I’d certainly like to have a set!
Enjoy those 2354s and try to post photos of them when you can! I’m so jealous!!! [;)]
I have these as well and love them. I totally refurbished the insides as the cosmetics were in really nice shape. They sound like coffee grinders, especially at low speeds but they can crawl (even around 031 that I have). And yeah, the smell and the way they’re made.
I’ve said this before , but there is just something really special and different about operating a postwar piece that modern stuff just can’t match.
Once I got used to that noise, and discovered that it’s normal, I was officially and unwaveringly head over heels with my F3s. Maybe the magic number for me in 2008 will be 2344? 2354?
