A question about the cornfield article in September MR - question for Cody Grivno

The Busch cornfield is the first realistic cornfield I have ever seen – looks great. In the article on page 41 there is a reference to a mix of 70% isopropyl alcohol and Scenery Cement as affecting the glue of a glue gun – and it references Figure 3 on page 42, but Figure 3 talks about a 50/50 mix of 70% isopropyl alcohol and water.

So which is it? Is there a use for a mix of rubbing alcohol and Scenery Cement?

Dave Nelson

Spraying on an alcohol/water mix helps the application of the alcohol/glue mix to penetrate the scenery materials so it really gets glued down, instead of just having a crust on top that breaks off.

The old way was to use a drop of dish soap in the water - but in experimenting with ballasting I’ve found isopropyl alcohol works WAY better than water with detergent.
