I’ve seen many photos of former L&N SD38-2’s in CSX paint, but they’ve always been in yards. Did CSX ever run any of these on the main line?
To my knowledge, no. At least not in the CSX era. Union Pacific as well, as all of their SD38-2’s are designated as “UPY” units.

Thanx Matt, I kind of suspected that - since none of them are equipped with dynamic brakes.
BTW: What does “UPY” mean - “U.P. Yard service”?
Yeah, and it’s treated as a different roster from UP’s road units. I believe there are even duplicate numbers between UPY and UP. It is all Union Pacific, though.
Matt
Yes, UP has too many units to for the 4 digit numbering. Rather then go to 5 digit they started useing UPY reporting marks for there yard locos.
