A question for our European members

My wife will be heading to France, Italy and Spain next week, as a chaperone for a group of high school students. She asked what I wanted her to bring me back, and I told her a couple of railroad magazines. I need some names of a few good ones, and if they leaned towards European narrow guage or industrial railroads, all the better. It would be helpful if they had some-or all- of the articles in English. (it amazes me I can read and write one language, asking for more would just be too much for this old brain!)

Any and all suggestions would be more than appreciated. Thanks!

The best known mag that would fit your needs is an English one called “Narrow gauge and industrial railway modelling review” I dont know if it is available on Mainland Europe.

The German mag Eisenbahn Journal is good value and sometimes carries N.G. articles. all in German though.

Although she is not visiting the UK, PECO publish “Continental Modeller” (in English!), which is usually replete with narrow gauge/industrial stuff, as well as world-wide, more mainstream modelling (apart from British, which is covered in their “Railway Modeller”. Whether she’s able to pick one up on her travels in any of the countries you name, I know not. Even if you can’t get a copy, I would strongly recommend that you get a subscruiption to CM, as it sounds just up your street.

There is a publication in France dedicated to narrow gauge and branchlines, it is called “Voie libre”, and available in most magazines shops. There used to be an english translation available on the editor’s website, LR Presse, alas they don’t do it anymore :

Thank you tutaenui, Brian and t-1, I will have her look for those mags mentioned.

I appreciate your replies.
