A question on the Delaware and Hudson

Where are the D&H’s Colonie shops?Does the D&H have any Alcos or Baldwin locomotives anywhere?

The Colonie shops were located just north of Albany, New York.

The only Baldwin diesels on the property were 2 RF-16 Sharknoses, acquired in 1974. They were disposed of in 1978.

The D&H was always heavy on Alco diesels. By the early 1970s, all of the S series switchers, and most of the unrebuilt RS2 and RS3s were gone. D&H disposed of the RS3ms, RS11s, RS36s and C420s by the late 1980s. Although a few RS11s and RS36s lasted into the early 1990s. In 1994, the last Alcos on the property, the C424s, were sold. Leaving the D&H enterly EMD.

Key word there is “were.” I believe that if you enter 73.71774W 42.71535N in Google Maps, it will take you pretty much right to what’s left. Looking at the topo maps in Terraserver you’ll find a plethora of tracks surrounding the buildings. There are none there now.

A search on “colonie shops” brought out that Guilford kept the shops when they sold off the D&H to CP. Anything of value has long since been removed, and according to several of the links, shop 1, the main shop, has suffered several fires.

When I was given a tour they had there a wooden coach that they used for board meetings that goes way back.
