Some years ago, the late Ed Blysard - a regular contributor to this forum - penned this tale. I like to resurrect it each year, because the theme is timeless.
Grab a hanky.
Got a good reality check today.
Everyone has a bad day once in a while, you know, those days where you could care less about any and everything, catch a good case of the blues, and end up feeling really sorry for yourself?
Had one of those yesterday, and it looked like a repeat for today.
The yard is jammed to the gills with cars, no place to switch them to, more work than we could ever get done, knee deep in gators…that along with some personal issues keeping me down in the dumps, having a real good pity party for myself…
Thanks Tree for that. Ed was a real gentleman. The wife and I spent a day with him going through the PTRA. Took him to lunch at the local Luby’s and just enjoyed his company. His last words: ‘I enjoyed the heck out of this day.’ So did we. That story always make me cry.
Thanks for posting it. A wonderful story for the Holiday season. I did not need to dowmload it now. I had quite forgotten about it, but your reminder allowed me to remember that it was on my hard-drive under the Kalmbach file as “Reality.pdf.”
I wsill now email it as an attachment to all my friends.
I wish I couild do the same with the October 2017 Trains magazine Norman Resor tale “Zipper.”
