Dec 24th: Work - 1pm til close of service (midninght or later probabley). Will be chasing drunks off the tracks and leaning out of the window and advising all those waiting that the last London is 3hr late off Paddington. Will aim to get to Midnight Mass at Truro Cathedral but will miss it probabley.
Dec 25th: After getting in at about 1 in the morning. Will jump in motor and drive Trowbridge for Christmas lunch with D. Maybe have a few beers.
Dec 26th: Drive back from trowbridge. 2350: Dec 26th - go to work. nights…
Dec 27-Jan 1st: Working Nights. So will have the envious task of watching various drunks do the can - can over the level crossing. And the fireworks.

Lucky you - spending Christmas at the birthplace of one of our best Beers, Wadworth 6X !! You’ll have to take some home with you for your next few days off.

Actually Wadworth’s 6X is brewed in Devizes (not Trowbridge! - the now defunct Usher’s brewer was in Trowbridge).
I should now - I’ve visited Wadworth’s brewery twice - I also worked at this year’s Devizes Beer Festival (I’m an active member of the Campaign for Real Ale’s NW Wilts branch and was previously chairman of the Herefordshire branch).
Wadworth’s Brewery is well worth seeing - it’s like a working museum. They still make wooden casks and deliver to some of their nearby pubs by horse and cart!
In mitigation, m’lud, I would admit that 6X goes straight to my eyes and seriously affects my reading. In fact, very much the same way that Badger, Jennings, Marstons, Morlands, Old Hooky, Ruddles, Shepherd Neames, and many others, whose names are rather hazy, succeed.
