A Russell snowplow

Hi, I bought an athearns snowplow kit from a swapmeet and was told by the seller that he bought it with the intention of shortening it to prototype for CP Rail. He said he saw it in an article but couldn’t remember what or where. So my question is has anybody out there seen such article in a magazine? It’s an HO scale

Robert,

I am a little confused. Athearn has a nice model of a Lima ‘Rotary’ snowplow. This was a very late model rotary - UP, SOO, & CRI&P purchased this model. AHM had a nice model of a old Milw ‘Wedge’ plow mounted on a wood gondola. This was a copy of a scratch-built model featured in MR back in the 50’s. IHC also released a somewhat longer ‘Wedge’ plow. Northeastern/Ambroid has released a wood kit over the years for a Russel wedge plow.

MDC/Roundhouse had some ‘3 in 1’ conversion kits in the 70/80’s, and I think several were snowplow or Jordan spreader types of snow removal equipment.

I had an article in the November 1996 issue of Model Railroading magazine on shortening a Walthers Russell wedge plow to make CP and CN copies. Here’s the CP version:

Thanks, November1996 is the issue then. I will see if they have this issue still in stock. I hope so.
