Here are pics of a small, yet detailed structure i just completed. The structure was assembled from Builders in Scale (Boiler and Pumphouse) kit. The footprint (including scenery base) measure 5.5 x 5.5 inches, making it a fun and easy build. What I like most about this kit is the exposed “stone” foundations along the left and rear walls. I did deviate from the instructions to install my “tar-paper” roofs. In addition, I added more bracing to the walls than called out in the instructions.
Spectacular!
Looks like a contest winner to me![tup]

Very nice Bob. Does this kit use board-by-board construction ?
Simon:
The walls are board and batten. The tricky part of using this material is around the window and door cutouts. Here, you must trim away the boards in order to have the castings sit flush in the opening. Trim too much, and you’ll have an ugly gap that sticks out like a sore thumb!
Bob,
That’s amazing! You always have awe-inspiring shots.
Really nice work Bob!
How’d you get the aged look of the paint? It doesn’t look like drybrushing or a wash.
Bob.
Your eye for detail is truly amazing. At first glance, I thought that you were pulling a fast one on us by posting a picture of the prototype. After I adjusted my TRI-FOCALS and enlarged the pictures, I spotted the very small details, (and I do mean small), that gave away your secret. Anytime I see one of your posts, I just have to check it out for ANY pictures of your handiwork. Please keep up the great work as it is an inspiration to we that try to emulate your skills.

Once again Bob, you continue to raise the bar on scratch building.
Wonderful job and great images too!
Cheers,
Ryan
Nicely done. What scale is it? I am guessing maybe “S” from the dimensions you quoted. How did you model the stone foundation?
Cheers!

This is really nitpicking becasue everything else is excellent but my eye was drawn to the shovel handle in the one picture as being strange. I think it needs to be reshaped a little and some paint removed as it is too new.
Supremely excellent, Bob. I enjoyed seeing it vey much.
One word…NICE!
Hi Phil:
I weather and texture my walls with a heavy coat of A&I wash. Hence the reason for all the extra bracing. Then I paint the walls with just a touch of grey (Floquil’s SP lettering gray) allowing the aged wood effect to show thru. After this dried, I went over the walls with dry-brushed Polly-S white.
Good Eye. After reviewing the same photo, I have to agree with you. As a result, I will go back and paint the shovel handle with roof brown. Thanks for the honest feedback.
Very nice work Bob, as usual. I have noticed in most of your pics you have newspapers that have blown and settled in a corner or aginst a fence. I would like to know how you make the newspapers. I like the little details that you have put in your scenes. Mike
First time poster here … hello everyone. [:)]
