Well I can hardly believe it, some guy on E-bay has just bid $15.50 plus $8.95 shipping on a 1977 Granada from Fresh Cherries. As we all know it is only worth $2.92 at any WalMart in the country. The seller must be a [oX)]
Maybe there is some real money to be made on E-bay if there are characters like this around.
Wow, I wonder what rock he has been living under. [X-)]
I couldn’t care less. I wonder why I spent 30 seconds on this thread. I guess it is just to let you know I occasionally get entangled in meaninglessness. But now I’m FREE!
The three most recent completed sales for this item on eBay sold for $19, $33 and $11, so there seem to be plenty of peeps willing to lay down some bucks for these. I am wondering why you don’t go out and pick up a handful at $2.92/each and make a nice little profit on eBay [:)] Jamie
If they want to pay money for it, isn’t it their objective to buy it? Obviously they had a reason to buy it.
We also have to think that they are not available at every Wal-Mart. They vary from store to store. We also have to think that there are people that want them who do not live in the USA.
Well, that’s life for you. But it doesn’t make the buyer a sucker - just unaware of this item being available elsewhere at a much better price. Local knowledge is always an advantage and sometimes the auction process can distort values either up or down. But a sucker - nah, that’s just being a bit unkind really.[sigh]
Some people don’t have access to things that the rest of us do and will gladly pay way more for it than what we will.
I’m a big collector of classis movies, and last March I bought a movie grab bag of ten movies of various titles with no choice as to what I would get for $20.00 plus $5.00 shipping. When they came in they were all adult XXX. And no, I didn’t complain and gave the seller an A+ all the way!.. That’s the best deal I’ve ever gotten so far in my six years of doing business on eBay.
Yardbird Trains had a new motor “buy it now” price for $31. I bid $29 to try and save the shipping costs. Two MORONS at the end bid it up to $40! He had a bunch of them. Why didn’t they just pay $31???[D)]
Fortunately, Dan sent me an E-mail and asked if I still wanted one for my $29 bid since he had quite a few of them. I thought that was real nice of him.[bow]
A cute system is when an item is $5.00 then gets to $50.00 and people keep bidding till it gets to $75.00 and down the column are 5 exact items for $3.00 and that’s what they end up selling for. who are these people???
Two points I’d like to make here. First is the fact the series III Fresh Cherries aren’t available in US Walmarts any longer (notice all the sellers are Canadian) so some folks in the US are apparently desparate to find these things.
Second, regarding the $8.95 shipping. If you bothered to read the ad, the seller charges actual shipping … the $8.95 IS the upfront shipping charge and he refunds the difference between it and the ACTUAL shipping cost plus $1.75 for materials and handling. You have to realize that it costs much more for us Canadians to ship to the US as opposed to shipping between states. There’s no possible way we can ship ANYthing to the states for $2.00 … around $6.00 is more likely the best we could do.
As someone mentioned earlier, there are a lot of folks in the USofA (not to mention other countries) that just don’t have access to the stuff the many of us consider “readily accessable”. Many of my buyers (I sell train stuff on Ebay during the winter months) are from areas that don’t even have a Walmart within 100 miles or so. And, there are folks that do not want to go out shopping - or even leave their house for that matter.
In fact, I sold a raised ranch house to a couple years ago (Joliet, Illinois), and the wife would not come and see the house until she could move directly into it with the furniture! She had a phobia (don’t recall the name), and spent a lot of time talking with my wife about the house, but could not handle leaving her house until she had one to move into!
Having said all of the above, there still are those that just don’t have a clue as to the worth of something, and/or will buy something they want no matter what the cost.
Actually, there’s a sucker born every 3.7 seconds here in the USA.
Value…it’s what you, yes YOU!, think something is worth. If someone thinks it is worth more, bully for him! The folks not seeing the other listings for the same product and only bidding on the first listing might be called suckers, but I prefer to think of them as just being lazy.
As far as shipping charges, some do and some don’t do right by the buyer. Don Z is an honorable gentleman and the sellers of stuff that I bought through Ed-Bay have all been reasonable so far. Canada? I don’t know. Good people those Canadians,eh?
My hats off to the seller. If he can get $100.00 for that more power to him. And the same goes for the guy who bought it. If he thinks he got a good deal then he did a fine job, as long as he’s happy. Who CARES about these stupid Ebay threads talking about someone who got suckered in. You don’t know the story. Maybe he’s far from any Hobby shop, maybe he has been looking for this item for a long time and has no other resorces to get one. IMO he’s far from being a “sucker”. And he might feel like he spent his money well knowing someone was following his item and decided to start a “thread” in a major MRR forum talking about how dumb he is and have everyone and his brother giving there 2 cents.
