So today I went to pensacola with my father to go junkyard diving. I was fairly succesful, getting several pieces I needed for my car (mostly just getting replacemnt interior panels that have the clips on them). Afterwards I decided to hit some hobby shops.
My old stand-by is Trains by Johnson. I’ve always gone there when in Pensacola. I went in to get a bulk pack of Kadees or Proto-Max couplers, but they were out. However when Looking I stumbled across some detail parts. They’ve never had detail parts before (at least as far as I can tell), but they had some (not many though) today. I found a detail part I hadn’t been able to find before. They had a Train station Products grill set to convert a P2K GP18 into a GP9 and a set of Detail associates fuel tank fittings for EMDs.
It got better though, I went into the used room and found a loco I could use as the base for something. A P2K GP, It caught my eye at first because someone painted in Daylight colors for Cotton Belt. Upon further inspection, it was a GP7 that I could use; but it needs some TLC. Needs new handrails, glazing, light boards, and grabs (someone installed wire grabs, but did them upside down, then flattened them to the shell. But at $20 I don’t think it was too bad, given it ran alright when they tested it.
So I wound up spending about $25 at Trains by Johnson. I also had a discussion with an older modeler who was happy to see “young blood in the hobby that is not afraid of doing work to get what he wants.” I guess he saw me examine the GP7 and the few detail parts.
Then I decided to stop by the West Florida Railroad Museum, in Milton. They have a hobby shop as well. Last time I went was before the last Pensacola show (they stopped running that a few years ago) but I just gave it a quick-look over.
I get there and there are A TON of detail parts. I start rummaging though and came up with the following:
1x DA 2807 (speed recorder), DA 2208 (Pilots for 1
