A very interesting robotics idea

There’s a guy on another scale forum who’s developed a “rail-bot” loco that roams a layout at various speeds and pathways (I believe it to be a randomized pattern) on it’s own, using a micro-controller brain and other software. IR sensors in the front and rear keep it from bumping into other trains. I’ve asked him for more info. I believe it could have fun applications for toy train buffs, who are usually a lot more fun-loving than rivet counters.

Dave, I see some really fun possibilities. [(-D] A handcar would be great!!!

The handcar would have to be very fast to escape my grandkids trains. They would chase it all over the layout.

Sounds like lots o fun to me with a handcar going fore and aft while a train is bering down on it? WOW lots o fun!!!

What would be neat would be to have it do a random pattern while several guys have units with command control. They would try to “tag” it but try to avoid hitting each other. Sounds like a modern day version of PacMan.
