Lately I’ve been looking for something different to buy. I did some digging around and found a company in the UK that makes some really nice AC 3 rail tinplate British-prototype steam locomotives (Ace Trains). It didn’t take much persuasion for me to purchase a BR passenger consist.
Although they’re definitely not cheap, they do resemble the old Lionel Corp. in the way that they’re constructed. No plastic, no complex circuitry, just a heavyweight shiney-metal model that surprisingly fits right in great with all of my American Lionel models.
I did contact them and they sent me a catalog. Very impressive workmanship and priced accordingly. I must say that the people that I spoke with were very nice and were happy to talk about their trains. If I ever get off train restriction, I think I would like to purchase one of the Royal sets.
Ace items are very well made. One train shop I go to has a Ace LNER A4 Pacific in the silver/grey early colours. Its £695 but it is a fantasic looking loco.
Ace makes wonderful trains. I’d love to get my hands on some. Especially the “wagons”. They’d look great behind Thomas, Percy, and James. As David said, the couplers don’t match with U.S. toy trains. A little pricey too, but seem to be worth it for the quality.
David,
That jingle has been updated to the more PC “hardware folk”. And the Chock Full o Nuts jingle now says “better coffee a billionaire’s money can’t buy” (instead of millionaire’s). The times, they are a changin’.
Ace makes some great products. Below are the item’s we’ve reviewed.
