Well I went for a coffee with my sweetie and we talked about trains. She said " the shay is your favorite isn’t it?"
I said “yes it is. And one day I hope to have one for my layout. I just wi***hat day was today, but oh well.”
She said “well I guess you will just have to be patient and wait till it comes in the mail.”
You could have knocked me over with a feather LOL.
She ordered an On30 shay for me and hopefully some time this week it will be coming in woooohooooo.
Then she tells me that she didn’t want it to be lonely [go figure] and so she got me a porter to go with it. I been in shock since LOL.
Since then I have been feeling like a kid waiting for these to arrive.
I am so blessed I tell you. Gotta love a woman who thinks a loco would be lonely so she buys you two of them LOL. Heck, I don’t even mind that she calls the Porter 0-4-0 “cute”. {ok just a little LOL}
I was wondering if anyone else has gotten surprises like this too?
I had a big day for Father’s Day. My son gave me a screwdriver set with a flashlight. My Daughter gave me three shirts. My wife got me a new Airbrush!!!..and last but not least my father in law gave me an incredible Ibanez guitar. Wow! This was better than Christmas and I didn’t see any of it coming. They really caught me off guard. We have never done much more than give cards and have a nice dinner for Fathers Day before. Bruce
I am happy to read that the great old time of such lovely women isn’t over. I am still looking for my right sweetie, therefore was not in the position to get such a feeling.
BUT DO NEVER FORGET THAT SURPRISE!!! BE GOOD TO YOUR WOMAN!TRY TO SURPRISE HER, TOO! BE HAPPY TO BE HER LOVER, AND GIVE HER ALL FREEDOMS SHE’S ASKING FOR!!! Than she won’t run away someday.
I am glad for all of you…what a great gift. The woman, that is, …and your children.
Don’t mean to throw any cold water on the subject, because it was truly a wonderful event…but we finally interred my mother’s cremated remains after four years. It was hard to get my siblings and Dad together, but we managed, and had a nice ceremony under what little sun there has been lately. That was my gift for Father’s Day.
Its been 30 some years, but my wife got me a United three truck shay for Christmas one year. I had the same 13 year old giddiness. Good for you and her. It still runs up in the logging camp.
Last Christmas I received a RTR SD60 and 50$ gift certificate to my favorite hobby shop from my grandma and then 6 days later my parents gave me another gift certificate for my birthday! The only bad part was when I broke a handrail pulling my SD60 out of its box, it was an easy fix though.
The last time that happened to me I was 13yrs old. It was Christmas and under the tree was an athern F-7. I’m 63 now and waiting for a repeat. Even another Athern F-7.
I have found that you can assist in being surprised. Most of us have so many trains that our families haven’t a clue what to get us even though they want to. So on Christmas or birthdays etc., we get “stuck” with underwear and tee shirts. As one gentleman stated, he would be thrilled with an Athearn F-7 again…
On my wife’s desk, where this computer is located, I lay out a magazine or an ad with the desired item well marked. I even have made notes on scratchpads, as if they were to myself, with the book’s title, author, publisher etc.
Some how this information gets spread around and I have been doing a lot better in the gift department.
I do something similar, I setup a wishlist on Walthers.com and gave my wife the link to it. Any time we come to a gift giving even, she surprises me with something off the wishlist. Of course she does the same with me by sending me emails with things she likes from ice.com.
I’m glad you got things you were looking for, that’s always a nice surprise.
If I accidently implied even slightly that this was for fathers day I apologize to those who may have been hurt by it.
I am not and never will be a father. It was just the way it was timed I suppose. I never celebrate fathers day and keep forgetting when it is. Sorry again if I brought up painful memories.
I just wanted to share my happiness at being blessed by [to me] such a great woman.
rbturner Well I am also in a good position because I have changed scales [HO to O] and so I only have a former HO dockside I butchered [I make buildings not locos :S] and I have no On30 Locos at all.
I really like shays and I especially like narrow gauge shays. So it was not hard for her to figure it out. What gets me is the loco might get lonely part LOL. Oh well I am not complaining.
However I still don’t think the Porter is cute.
