Does anybody have a complete AAR freight car mechanical classification list? I mean the one containing car codes like HM or XM and their descriptions. I would like a copy, if possible.

These “mechanical designations”, which are somewhat out of date, are contained in “The Official Railway Equipment Register” a tariff published quarterly by the Official Railway Publication Co. div. of Primedia. How to determine the current classifications such as “B404” and “C113” for UMLER are also contained in the same publication. if you are interested I have a few 1980’s issues I will sell for $15.00 each plus shipping. They are like a telephone book and shipping outside the USA costs more than the $15.00
Thank you for the offer, but I live in Brazil (South America) and I don’t have any means of sending money to a private party outside the country. What I would like is just a plain Xerox copy of the mechanical designations. Age isn’a a problem, as I’m going to use this list to set up movements on my circa-1970 shortline layout.
Unfortunately, I can’t help you there, I am retired from the railroad industry and my home copier only copies single pages (it’s also my fax, scanner, and printer) and cannot copy pages from books. Maybe someone else here can help you. BTW, the mechanical designations cover a number of pages as there are drawings illustrating some of the types.
