@JIm, the first two weeks of May are notoriously slower time period for all transportation, even air travel sees reduced ridership during those two weeks.
I keep reading that BNSF has furloughed 1100 workers…I guess it is true.
Jim Norton, I would agree that rail traffic is a fairly accurate barometer of the overall economy, but like any data needs to be taken in context. Looking at only two specific weeks is rather narrow view of things. The AAR provides weekly traffic information on their website. Interesting to look at, especially if you start breaking down by commodity group to see where the economy is growing, and where it is not.
