The AAR should do a breakdown of containers. How many are domestic and how many are international.
In the future, expect a reduction of trailers and an increase in domestic containers as the trucking companies with trailers and no containers, just getting into intermodal, find out about the rail yard gorillas. You didn’t know rail yards have gorillas? They sure do. How else do all those trailers get smashed so frequently? Domestic containers on the other hand tend to be somewhat more rail yard gorilla proof.
Other future changes are an increase in domestic bulk tank intermodal containers and flatbed intermodal racks. Both are on the market. Of course it will be a few years before either comes remotely close to the number of domestic containers.
SURE WISH, AT LEAST, SOME OF THE TRUCK TRAFFIC ON THE I35 CORRIDOR IN TEXAS COULD BE REDUCED…IF YOU TRAVEL IN TEXAS BY AUTO ON I35 YOU WILL HAVE TRAFFIC ROLLING ALONG AT 75 TO 80 MPH ONLY A CAR LENGHT APART. IF A MISHAP OCCURS AS MANY AS 10+VEHICLES INVOLVED…POPULATION CONTROL USUALLY HAPPENS…
