Does anyone know of any websites that deal specifically with abandoned railroads? I’m interested in pictures of abandoned right-of-ways, bridges, signals, etc. Anything would help for ny location. Thanks!

Tom,
Don’t know if this will help you, but this website covers the abandoned Jay St. Connecting Rairoad in Brooklyn, NY. I’m over in that area almost everyday.
Very interesting photos. Tracks are all in the street and are quite unused as you will see!!!

One more interesting one here in the City.
The remains of the NYC HIGH LINE.
An abandoned elevated freight RR.
Ababdoned LIRR passenger branch in Queens.
An abandoned commuter line in Staten Island.
Note to John in New York, I am originally from the area and remember an abondoned commuter (?) line that ran in Yonkers up off of Central Ave. somewhere. I remember an abondoned crossing near the old Cadillac dealer (DeFayo???) that I always wondered about. Any idea on a web site to find out about this? Jim, Aurora, IL
Gee Jim,
That’s a good question. The one abandoned line I can think of that would run through Yonkers would be the old New York Central Putnam Line. But I don’t think that’s anywhere near Central Ave…
I will ask around for you!
It’s quite possibe to search for “Yonkers railroads”…I will try that for you when I have a moment to do so. Hang in there and I’ll try to find out for you!
Happy New Year too!
John
Thanks John, I will try searching for both Yonkers Railroads and NYC Putnam division as I think that is exactly the track I was trying to think of now that you have mentioned it. Jim, Aurora, IL
Great NYC stuff!
