Yesterday I took my family with me to the open house for the Aberfoyle Junction layout located near Guelph Ontario. What a fantastic layout!
It is built in a Qonset hut and is modelled in O scale. It features a number of excellent model trains pulled by both steam and diesel. The prototypes modelled are Canadian National and Canadian Pacific with a few TB&H trains about. The level of detail is incredible, all the passenger trains are lighted with interiors, many of the buildings are lighted.
The highlight of the layout is the day to night sequence when the house lights gradually dim and the interior and platform lights come on. It also has a working bascule bridge.
Their open house is done for this fall but they usually hold another in May which is announced in Model Railroader. Anyone who is within striking distance of Guelph at that time would be in for a real treat!
This layout has also been featured in Model Railroader a couple of times.
