Scale? If N, must be LifeLike or Bachmann (cheap). Katos go for about $70 and I think the Kato is worth every penny.

Must be Bachmann HO.

Spend a little more and get the Athearn.You can find them at most Internet hobby shops or on Ebay for around $45,regular price was $56.50.Look for models with Athearn part numbers in the 6300-,6400-,and 6500-series.These would be phase 1(1972-76),phase 2(1976-79),and phase 3 (1980-1982) SD40-2’s.

It is a Bachmann. Its list price is $65, in the United States. Of course I do not know if $31.99 is a good deal in China.

Wow, and 20 bucks for an Athearn was cheap! even SD40-2’s.Everything but the fuel tank says Athearn “second” run. Maybe Kato’s first run? Those were NASTY BASTARDS!!! Ran great, but looked like s[censored]t. yea, looks like Kato. What, $75 new, then jacked up that peice of junk to $100. Rather own Athearn. You can always fix it up for less than Kato’s out of the box, and they still suck donkey.

Kato’s SD40-2 has issues in the wiring…Becareful of the production run you buy.Also Kato is a RTR KIT…You pay high dollar and still add all the detail parts.

My suggestion is to wait on the new UPGRADED RTR Athearn SD40-2.
