AC-11 & AC-12 Tenders

I’m wondering if it’s possible to secure a (separate) AC-11 or AC-12 tender to couple with an SP rotary plow for the early 50s. Certainly don’t want to have to buy one with the cab-forward. Doesn’t appear than anyone who has made one has been inclined to do extras as appears that Athearn has done with the tenders for their Genesis MT-4s. Any suggestions?

I don’t think that Intermountain offers the tenders separately, however you might check E-Bay and see if perhaps an older brass AC-12 tender might become available from time to time. IIRC, the tenders for the AC classes from 7-12 (excluding the Lima-built AC-9’s) were identical.

Other than that, the only large SP tender that might be available separately would be the SP-1 tender that Bachmann uses on their SP version (incorrect) of the USRA Heavy Mountain.

Sometimes old Riverossi AC-12 tenders turn up in vendor’s junkboxes at train shows. You’d have to replace the wheels, add some weight and come up with a different drawbar but the initial investment should be pretty reasonable.
