Hello, I am going to be building some EMD’s; SD60M, SD70, & 75, (Ath undecs) soon. My question is; when did/does EMD build operator or cab AC Units into the bodywork of of the newer hood units? Meaning, would it be OK or wrong, to put cab-top AC units on 60+ series loco’s? I don’t know the later models as well as I know the 40 & 45 series units. I do have finished models of an ACE & a Kato SD90/43MAC, but don’t know what all the small grilles are for on those. This is one feature I know what to look for more on a GE than an EMD unit.
Thanks, any help would be appreciated!
The regular cabs would have the AC unit on the roof. The wide nose “Comfort” cabs would have them somewhere else, most likely on the fireman’s side on the walkway somewhere.
Thanks for the response, here is my current status on my SD60M, yes, I have added an emergency fireman’s door & an appropriate ‘horizontal ECU’ cabinet. (if not guessed, this is/was an undec Athearn SD60M Genesis, & I am accessorizing in my absurd way- [what you see is not all in the Athearn kit!])
So, with this particular build in mind, where would an AC unit go?
Please feel free to copy & edit my picture, as to where an AC unit would be & re-post it.
I did some searches, but did not find anything definate - as to a ‘cab cooling soloution’ to fit my needs.
PS: The pic let me know to fix the EOT antenna, musta got dinged before the photo…
Thanks in advance,
