Accessing MRR forums (Community) do you have problems?

Hi

Sorry, this is laptop stuff!

Since the new MRR website came into being I cannot access these forums. (Obviously I have now but using a different laptop - Lenovo). My Toshiba laptop routes to cs.trains when I click on forum and then goes to page unavailable. On the Lenovo when I click on forums it invokes trains.com and goes straight there. I have refreshed on my Toshiba but to no avail.

This is really a drag as I go into MRR forums every other day and not being able to get here really limits my use of MRR. I enquired on MRR Facebook and was given a phone number to call at Model Railroader if this persisted after re-fresh but I’ve mislaid it!!!

So, sorry this is only about access via my laptop and not a railroad question! But any help would be fantastic. (And the Lenovo is not mine, so it ain’t any good saying, 'Use the Lenovo!!)

Thanks in advance

Barry

I hate being without full access to MRR…

I am using a Toshiba laptop and have no problems accessing the MMR forums. I did have some problems a while ago but it was not a problem with my computor. Your Anti virus protection or security system may be blocking your access to the sites.

There are other sites that are just as good. Can you access them?

It is not the brand of laptop that causes the problem, it is the inability of the forum software to interact correctly with different combinations of operating systems and browsers.

Rich

The weird thing is that I had no problems before the website was update. Used my Tosh, had access to all MRR site. Appreciate it’s not the make of laptop but very weird that it is doing it now.

That was true for most of us.

No problems before, but problems now.

What is your operating system, and which browser are you using?

Rich

The forum IS under the url http://cs.trains.com

And a bunch of other stuff.

About the same time they updated the forum, Microsoft pushed IE11 with the updates, so unless you actually check like I do before applying updates, you probably got IE11 at the same time. IE11 needs to be in compatibility mode for this forum. IE10 doesn’t. It’s mostly a security thing, the more locked down they make the browser, the less these sites work with the default settings. Not really recommended, but if you added cs.trains.com to trusted sites it should also work.

I had problems with IE11 as Randy mentions. Go to Tools / Compatibility mode and enable it if you have IE11.

After the forum update the old link I had been using no longer worked. All I got was a page not found error. I now use THIS LINK and it works every time.

Hi Paul, Randy, everyone…

Thanks! I have Windows 7 with IE 11. The difference between the laptops was that only the Tosh was runing IE 11. Tools, Compatibilty fixed it and now here I am on the Tosh answering the forum.

Thank you guys! As always MRR readers are so helpful.

Excellent… I can now continue in peace!

Very best regards

Download and install Firefox. Let you PC use IE for updates. Issues are regularly occurring with users of IE. Switch rather than fight. Some here love fighting though.

Richg1998,

‘‘Obvious Man’’ says, Amen.[:D]

In case you didn’t see it, Frank says “amen” [I]

Not so obvious man says, I have never had a problem with IE, and Firefox has turned into a bloated resource hog [:D]

I spend most of my time in the Electronics and DCC section, that’s where my bookmark is, always works. Would work for the general section, or the layout and building section.

Randy,

Maybe I gave an ‘‘Amen’’ to Rich’s last sentence! [:-^]

‘‘I am, Invincible’’. James Bond movie, anyone remember which one?

Cheers, [D]

You know Who

I have Win7 and when using IE ver.11, this new forum will not load. I got tired of the nonsense, so I did a system restore back before ver. 11 installed and have gone back to using IE ver. 10. Now the new forum works again on my IE. I have also turned off automatic updates for IE so it won’t just reinstall itself without my say so.

I still think it is incredible that Trains.com can’t maintain stable forum software. It’s like they’ve hired a bunch of high school kids who think that newer is always better, no matter if it’s true or not. Thousands and possibly millions of other websites don’t have the problems that Trains.com routinely has with compatiblity. What gives?

Goldeneye! I’m a severe James Bond nut!

Jeff,

You got it. I’m a nut too! I would rather watch an old James Bond movie, then some of the movies they have on cable. How about a romp with Natasha was it?

Cheers, [D]

Onatopp? She always did enjoy a good squeeze.[(-D]

I was unable to access the forums for about 7 to 10 days, ever since Windows Updates decided to install IE11 for me. All my links, including directly from the websites, stopped working. As has been stated before, I had to add trains.com to my Compatibility View group in IE in order to get back in. But you shouldn’t have to rollback IE11 entirely. Unless of course you want to…

Goldeneye, OLD Bond? No, if Sean Connery isn;t Bond, it isn;t OLD Bond LOL.
