Hi all, I’ve nearly completed the wiring on my new Christmas layout. The only major task remaining is the street lamps (Lionel) and structure lighting (Model Power). I need some suggestions on connecting those tiny wires to 18 gauge feeder wires. I’d rather not solder them due to space limitations under the platform. Any ideas?
The 3M Scotch Locs, sometimes called suitcase connectors work really well. You can get them at Lowes and Home Depot, or auto prts stores like Advance Auto Parts or Autozone. Easy to use and relativly cheap.

Make sure that you get the RED ones. They are for the smaller wires. BLUE is the next size, but might be too big. If all you can get are the blue ones, just wrap the bare wire back over the insulation and use as instructed, this adds some bulk and will prevent the wire pulling out.
Why not solder extentions to the lights away from the layout, and feed the wires down to connections? You can put a heat shrink tubing around the connections to protect them, and will be able to keep the hole in the top to a minimum.

DOH!!! Why didn’t I think of that?!! [:-^] Thanks to all for the great suggestions!
