Accessory Transformer Question

I was given a Lionel 36-watt accessory transformer, Model LNL32923. I was told it was an “O27 guage” transformer, but the output is variable AC, so is there any reason why this can’t be used to power HO switches and accessories?

Thanks in advance…

Should work ok. Use your multimeter and set the level at what works. Usually about 12 to 14 volts AC. If you have a lot of accessories, you might want to figure out how much current is required. Don’t remember how much current is required to operate twin coil switch machines. That could cause blinking lights in accessories. Takes quite bit of current for an instant or so to operate a twin coil machine.

A Circuitron Snapper on the AC transformer would be a better way for the twin coil machines to operate.

Experiment.

Our club uses a fairly large AC transformer we picked up many years ago so the voltage does not change when we use a twin coil turnout.
