Accessory wiring

New to Lionel trains. I got a K-line log dump car to go with the Chesapeake Super Freight Set I got to give my 3 and 6 year old daughters something to keep them intersted.

With the dump car, my dealer sold me the uncoupling track to operate it. the manuel of the uncoupling track states not to connect it to the accessory terminals on the CW-80 transformer. So, how do I connect it or do I need to get another transformer to operate the dump car?

Thanks,

Ron Williams

You can use the track power to run the UCS. The engine will need to cycle to neutral, then increase the throttle to 12-14v to power the UCS track section, and push the activation button.

When you raise the track power with the engine in neutral all the track will powered to 12-14v.

ROnw,

You didn’t say if it was O27 or O, but I have to assume you have O from your question. I have a copy of teh original Lionel documenttion for the O adapter track, and will be glad to share with you.

Thanks, its always the simple things you don’t think about.

The set came with fasttrack. I am slowly trying to increase my track size to create an inner and outer loop with a couple of runoffs.

reading the manuel would be helpful.

Thanks,

Ron Williams

Ron,

Unfortunately the doc I have is for O, not fasttrack, I don’t know if it helps. Also, I’m using firefoxx and it doesn’t let me past a picture. What’s your email? I’ll email it to you. It’s a PDF file.

ronw,

The instructions for the uncoupling track are outmoded. If you have a revised CW80 it will work just fine. Simply unhook the uncoupling magnet from track power and hook it up such that it gets its power from lthe accessory posts.

If you have a pre-revision CW80, it will still work, but you will have to reverse the connections. between transformer and track and accessory. On pre-revision CW’s, the A and B posts are “common;” the U posts are the “hot” ones. Using this workaround will reverse the functions of the whistle/horn and bell buttons. Otherwise it should work fine. There have been reams written about this in the archives of this forum and the Yahoo FasTrack forum --among others.

Evidently it has all been for naught.
