Accident disrupts Charlotte light rail service overnight

Considering how light automobiles are constructed when compared to 40 years ago, I would hesitate to ride over track constructed so flimsy that a car is capable of causing damage.

I wish the story said how the driver was doing at least

Track damage can include many items. Angling through an old suburb on private ROW, Pittsburgh’s Red Line crosses two busy secondary streets near their intersection. This forms a right triangle, with the track at 45 deg. to both streets. A commercial building with sidewalk abuts the tracks, sitting at an angle to the grid of nearby homes. From time to time, “confused” drivers who don’t know the area mistake the tracks for a short cut street. Their misadventures can damage ties, impedance bonds and ATC trip boxes between the rails. You’d think the 12 sets (!) of red flashers and six crossbucks at the two crossings would spell “tracks” - but not for everyone.

If Jeff’s car can’t handle crossing the tracks, I’d like to know what piece of crap he is drivng so I don’t buy one like his. If it can’t handle crossing tracks, how is it going to handle any potholes in the road?
