Have any of you users purchased some BLI stuff yet? A guy in the other forum cautioned about BLI because several of his units have mechanical and/or sound/electrical problems. BLI ads and info seem too good to be true (all that great Pennsy and SF steam power!!!), I hope the long-term quality, service support and quality control is up to par with the looks of the models!

BLI has got a ton of models it’s planning on doing within the next year.For example:
For May;ATSF 3700 Class 4-8-4 Northerns.
For July;NYC 4-6-4 Hudsons
For August;Union Pacific Mountain type. E6A and B units. 2-8-2 Mikados.SD40-2.
September;EMD switchers NW-2 and SW-7.
For December;N&W “J”. AC-6000CW. F-7’sE8A &B. C30-7’s.
These release dates are swags.I don’t think BLI knows the exact release dates on these models. One thing for sure, 2004-2005 are gonna be expensive for us U.P modelers.
Atlas is gonna be a major drain on the ol’ pocket book for another 6 months also.
To heck with the modern diesels, BLI is coming out with a USRA light mike! Yeah, they’ve been done to death (Athearn, Bowser, IHC, Trix, Cary, Oriental, brass, etc…) , but I’ve sort of fallen in love with BLI steam. I’ve got two of the USRA heavy mikes, and they’re almost the only engines I run any more! For $175, I got an engine that would normally have an MSRP of $125 (about the same as the Athearn engine) with a sound system that would have an MSRP of about $175 (IF you could get the same sort of thing off the shelf, which you can’t). Pre-installed! The engines also pull pretty well.
Don’t forget the C&O T-1!!! She should be here sometime in the fall…
I’m getting a little worried about the future BLI releases after the mess with the AT&SF northern…I mean whats next, a purple stripe on that Class J? I just wish someone would say something about the northern. BLI hasn’t updated thier site and no one else is saying whether it is supposed to be that way or not…

From what I heard, BLI contacted the manufacturer of the Northern at the last minute and asked if the engines color could be lightened up “a little”. They thought this would bring out the detail better. This information is not very reliable although it is plausible. My Northern runs like a dream.I posted some pics on the Atlas board before it went down for the summer. In the pic it looks REAL grey. It’s not that grey in person.For me, owning a Santa Fe 3700 class Northern with sound and awesome detail at the price I got it for, the color isn’t that big of a deal.
Thanks Sprink, that is more info than I have gotten. I guess whats bothering me most is the drivers being a completely different color from the rest of the loco. To me is is VERY obvious and it’s just one of those things that drives me up a wall. I guess I’m too much of a perfectionist.
I maybe should have used a smilie in my previous comment!! I absolutely love my CB&Q E7’s and my NYC J1. They are just the best!! I will either just live with this northern or maybe I’ll have Greyhound Challenger weather it up a bit to blend a little better! How 'bout it James!?
Yeah, I love my E-7’s too, but, the sound is not as deep as the website soundbite because the speakers are a lot smaller. I have also heard a friends SP cab-forward and it is fantastic! Another friend has a Pennsy T-1 that is pretty awesome too. Sound is definitely the way of the future. I have an SW-2 on order and meanwhile am converting my existing Stewart FT’s to DCC+ Sound. I wonder how many others find as I do that adding sound makes you WANT to operate realistically. I have since gotten in with a forming operations group and it is a whole new world of model railroading pleasure.
Sound really can help set the mood, and give you incentive to operate in more prototypical ways …especially by slowing down.
One thing people often overlook about sound- if you’re prone to speeding around like a slotcar if you think nobody’s looking during an operating session, sound will rat you out to everyone else in a hurry!
I learned from my dealer that BLI is finally going to take orders for a ATSF 2-10-2
I checked BLI’s site and looked over the forums and have no imagaes of the engine. I would like to use of of these (undecorated) to recreate the B&O 2-10-2 which were famous for their performance in the early 1930’s
Does anyone else have any more information? Details are sketchy and am not willing to commit to it without examination of the product.
