I have just taken delivery of one of these beautiful engines but have not yet run it. It is butane fired so hopefully it will be easier to light than the alcohol fired version. That said, I notice that the front of the firebox cannot be opened entirely as it can on the GS4. I am also a little concerned re your comments on the “front truck”. My track has a min 9ft radius and the Accucraft site said, if I remember correctly, that this engine would run on an 8ft radius. O well, we will soon see! I found your review informative and engaging, as usual. Also, when you mentioned the whistle, I immediately raced upstairs and turned the engine over - yep, there it is. I had no idea & didnt see anything in the handbook either. A nice surprise so thank you.
would like to see info regarding electric power send to engine other thern track
like having a motor cycle battery on train
To add to my earlier comment, I have now had the engine for 8 months & it is now running well.It did need some “tuning” from Gordon @ Argylle loco’s in Melbourne especially in relation to the axle pump which was very stiff. It seems that some one thought that if one “O” ring was good, two would be better. I understand that others in the U.S. have also found this, but seemingly only on gas fired versions. The engine is a real stunner both standing & running. I managed to track down some C.P.coaches (Aristo heavy weights) made as a special for a store in Canada. Looks great & just like the train I travelled in (loco & all) as a boy in Canada in 1952.
