Accuracy Of Upcoming Athearn DM&E SD40-2s

The new Athearn RTR Dakota Minnesota & Eastern SD40-2s are scheduled to arrive late September. I already pre ordered one but it seems like the blue is a little off. The details of the model make it look like the unit is still new (Three chime horn, Air Hose 4321 and 1234) but yet it looks as though it has the faded blue of the unit in later years. (AKA the blue is a little to bright). This could just be because of the light during the photo shoot though. Anyways the only other inaccuracies i could find was that the locomotive is missing the spare knuckle coupler mount and windshields.Heres a picture direct from Athearn:

And did anyone else notice the nose is falling off?

That picture appears to be a unit from the ‘early’ years. The blue is lighter and there is no reflective frame stripe. It also has the ‘DME’ lettering rather than the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern’ lettering in the yellow band. The current paint scheme has a much darker blue…

IIRC, DM&E 6361 s ex-MILW 197. Note the correct shorter 3200 gallon fuel tank.

Also of note: DME 6361 was wrecked August 25, 2000 and subsequently scrapped. I would have preferred that they picked a different unit.

Really? That’s why i haven’t seen any recent pictures of it…what happened?

Never Mind, I just took a look at the article. Sad what happened to the conductor because of the actions of the man that switched the track.

Hi,
I kinda hope I have some that are different shades of Blue, & have been shooting alternate colors for a little bit.
I lost a link where in it showed about 5 loco’s in Chicago, & all 5 were different tones, but it was a little better than this one.
