Received a message about Accurail RTR 40’ boxcars. Checked Accurail site and no info. Also have not seen any ad about same. Anyone have any info? Just assembled regular cars? Seem pricey for that at $18.98
OK people. I understand that if these are indeed identical to the kits anyone would be stupid to buy them. So does anyone know what the diffference is? And by the way, almost all of the Athearn RTR are different paint jobs than the old BB kit, so you cannot buy the same car in kit form to save money. I am guessing that this is the case with these cars as well as perhaps metal wheels.
That means I can save $8-10 just putting them together myself. Proto 2000 is one thing. But, Accurail RTR’s?!? They are simple and pretty straightforward to put together.
Here’s what you do: Buy the Accurail kits, hone your modeling skills, and save yourself some money. Why, you could have 2 kits for the price of one RTR.
I received an e-mail from a dealer about the new Accurail RTR items, but never read it that closely. I would imagine that it’s exactly the same product that you can get in kit form, the same as Athearn RTR vs. blue box kits. There may be some improvements on the RTR stuff, such as metal wheels versus plastic in the kits.
Seeing I lost the use of one hand I welcome more RTR cars to choose from.
I can understand Accuraill entering the RTR market…As I said before that’s the current market demand.
Haven’t seen anything on Accurail RTR. I have several Accurail kit cars, and have enjoyed “building” them. I put Kay-Dee metal wheels and #5 couplers on them. They’re good performers both over the railroad, and in switching operations.
