Accurate substitute for Floquil RR64 Maroon?

Hello,

I’m actually in the process of trying to buy a bottle of Floquil RR64 Maroon-- not an easy task-- and in the event I come up empty-handed, can anyone recommend an accurate substitute for RR64 Maroon in another paint line?

Oh, and if anyone here has a bottle of RR64 Maroon they would like to sell, please don’t hesistate to let me know. [:D]

I have a place I am going to Tuesday 3/7/6 . I get a lot of my floquil there, he has a large stock of old paints. I will check and let you know.

Tom,

Thank you so much for checking. I really appreciate it. [:D]

Dan,
No Luck, sorry. This is an old hobby store and they have all kinds of old stuff hanging around. I have picked up some long discotinued floquil but he didn’t have any or your # 64.

Not sure if it’s a match, colour-wise, for Floquil, but you might want to check out Scalecoat’s CPR Maroon. It’s a lacquer based paint like Floquil, although it dries to a gloss finish. It sprays nicely and gives a good, tough finish.

You might want to mention what you want it for. If you’re looking for Milwaukee Maroon Scalecoat 10626 or 20626 (plastic compatible) is dead on. It’s also good for GM&O maroon and the maroon on Rock Islands “as delivered” scheme

Hi everyone!

Thank you for the replies. I’m sorry for my late reply. For some reason, the forum e-mail notification didn’t work, eventhough it was set to “on.”

Tom, thanks for checking. [:)]

I’m reconditioning an older boxcar that I used RR64 Maroon on. All of the current Floquil maroons are lighter and less “purple” than RR64.

Thank you for the Scalecoat suggestions, I will look into them.

Thanks again!

Did you ever find a suitable substitute or good paint mix for Floquil’s RR64 Maroon? I too am attempting to try and find a match, as it is dead on for freshly painted CGW Maroon. A friend of mine has actually matched it to an original 1955 paint chip. Thanks.
