If Acela I were used on the Keystone they will become as reliable as the HHP-8s were, and possibly worse. The only reason the Acelas were relatively reliable was that they had the manufacturer-supported “gold plated” maintenance program while the HHP-8s did not. Remove that gang of factory-trained repairmen and you’re going to be broken down in Lancaster five times a month.
I’d rather the keystone line get some new equipment (perhaps a couple brand new Acela-2 sets?), instead of NEC hand-me-downs. (At least they got the new electrics by some miracle).
In the meantime, there’s still a few low-level stations that need upgraded.
