Just turned on the news. An Acela hit a car at a crossing in Conn. about an hour ago. There’s nothing left of the car.I’ll be curious to see if the car jumped the crossing gates.(it’s on Fox news)

Some people will never learn because they are idiots, unfortunately, this is how we improve the gene pool.
Last year, I was in NH when the engine was being brought around for the return trip when some idiot tried to run the signals about 10 feet in front of the Diesel. Some of us who were taking pics at the crossing got all over his dumb a…[censored] so bad that he backed up and waited. The engineer then stopped and gave him his mind also. Why do they do this ? We may never know, but we see it every day on the highways don’t we !!
Think of it as evolution in action.
I feel for the train crew who really could do nothing but hope it didn’t throw their train off the track and kill any of their passengers. And who now have to live with the fact that, even though it wasn’t their fault, they killed 2 people.
Wonder if Chuck Schumer is gonna use this as yet another reason why trains are somehow unsafe…

I just read the reports from yesterdays accident, the train was travelling at 50mph, and it dragged the car several hundred feet down the tracks. A passenger on the train said that she could see the gates were down. The 61 year old grandmother and the 8 year old grandson were killed, and the 4 year old grandaughter was in critical condition. It was the first accident at this crossing in ( Waterford, Ct) in 28 years. Rescue people had to be councelled after witnessing such a horrific scene inside what remained of the tangled mess. The mother of the children told authorities that her mother always waited longer than necessary because she was afraid of the trains. I guess she was in a big rush yesterday, and the price was dear.
This is a heart wrenching trajedy.
When I heard about this I assumed it was likely they typical male, 18 thru 35 age group that’s often in a hurry to do “whatever” and feels that he can easily beat a train.
Apparently not the case here with this senior citizen. My heart and prayers go out to the family. A very hard lesson learned, once again.
Thinning the herd. Drive around gates with an Acela coming at you. That is not smart.
Most of the time I would agree with you but in this case the grandmother was ‘probably’ removed from the gene pool years ago. The 8 year had no input as to cross or not and now, because of the actions of his grandmother, he was removed from the pool.
