ACL/SCL Boxcar Question

I seen these on the fallen flags website. 1 was lettered for the ACL, while the other was for the SCL; both were white with red doors and red lettering. There are hatches in the roof, and the SCL’s side had heavy spillage on it (white in color). I was curious if anyone knows what was hauled in these.

Thanks
Mike

Kaolin: basically, a primary ingredient in the ceramics industry.

Mike,
Unless I’m wrong, kaolin clay is also the primary ingredient in Kaopectate an anti-diarrheal medication, so it also goes into porcelain pots in a non-ceramic form.[:)] So, if you have a pharmaceutical industry on your pike, you could spot one of the cars there periodically. I think one of the other ingredients in the medication might be pectin.

Thanks for the info. I’m planning to eventually see about making a couple of these for my layout.

All the answers are correct but there is more info. Kaolin is white clay and is heavily used in the paper industry for making high priced smooth white paper. Bleaches are passe due to environmental concerns. Without it you would only have the yellowish elementary school type paper.
